The visit / A question brief

Can my first visit happen online?

Yes, Texas rules allow a first online visit. The person providing care must still carry out a proper medical check.

What counts as an online visit?

Telehealth is care given at a distance. A live video visit lets you and the person assessing you talk at the same time.

As of September 2026, Texas allows a first visit over live video or by reviewing relevant photos, images, or health records sent ahead. The records review can happen without a live conversation, or with a phone call. Either way, the person providing care must have enough information for a proper medical check.

Useful health records include your medical history, test results, and prescription history.

Is a phone call or form enough?

The Texas rule checked in September 2026 does not list a phone call alone as a way to begin care with a new patient.

A phone call alone can be allowed if the doctor already treats you, or is covering for your doctor under an agreement.

A form may be part of gathering your history. Ask what records the person assessing you reviews and how you can exchange follow-up questions.

What follows the visit?

After a first Texas visit by video or review of health records or images, you must receive advice on what care you need next. This is the rule checked in September 2026.

With your consent, a report must reach your regular doctor within 72 hours, if you have one.

Ask for a copy of the plan, the next point of contact, and an explanation of any needed exam or tests.
