The visit / A question brief
What can I bring to the first visit?
Bring the question that led to your search. A short note is enough to help you remember what matters.
What belongs in my notes?
- What am I hoping to change or understand?
- Which medicines and supplements do I take?
- Which past health problems or reactions do I want to mention?
- What treatment name or advert brought me here?
Bring the actual names, or the labels, if that is easier. Make room to say what worries you as well as what interests you.
Will there be blood tests?
There is no general federal requirement for blood tests before every prescription, as of September 2026.
You may still need blood tests for your health problem or the particular medicine. State rules and special safety requirements for certain medicines can also require tests.
Medical-board guidance says to arrange any tests a proper assessment needs, or refer you elsewhere for them.
- What question would this test answer?
- How will the result change the plan?
- Who reads the result, and how will I hear back?
What is worth writing down before I leave?
- Why this option rather than another?
- What change would count as useful for me?
- When will we check if the plan is helping?
- How do I ask questions between visits?
- What will the visit, medicine, and follow-up each cost?
Leave space beside each question for the answer. It is fine to ask for a word to be explained again.
